I play the US Open without expectations. MUGURUZA

“Lowering the expectations”… this is the rule for the game.

Roger Federer has been playing this card for the entire 2017 (with great results), and Garbine Muguruza is doing the same before the upcoming US Open.

Why it’s difficult to lower the expectation for the Spaniard

Garbine is leading the 2017 rankings after she has won the titles in Wimbledon and in Cincinnati where she trashed back to back the world no.1 (Karolina Pliskova, 6-3 6-2) and the world no.2 (Simona Halep, 6-1 6-0). After her recent successes, the Spaniard is tipped as one of the hot favorite at the Flushing Meadows, but she doesn’t like it much.

Garbine commented

“Playing three tournaments [after the Championships] and lifting a trophy is a great preparation and I hope it’s going to help me

But I know even if you play a terrible match before a grand slam it doesn’t really matter, or if you win a tournament. We’ll see how it goes.

I feel like I’m going to try and not have a lot of expectations with New York. Every time I have a little bit, it holds me a little bit back. I’m just going to go out there from zero. Forget about what happened previous years. It’s a new tournament.”
