John McEnroe and Nick Kyrgios have a weird relationship. The American keeps on criticizing Nick for his behavior and his lack of dedication to tennis, but on the other side, he likes the Australian for his character. From Kyrgios’ side, well he doesn’t seem to like McEnroe much.

Why McEnroe hopes that Nick will be the best player in the world

Talking on behalf of the ESPN, John commented

“Nick is the most talented player out there. He has the attributes and the game to be the best player in the world.

The question is can he put it together and dedicate himself regarding fitness and the mental aspects needed to make a sustained challenge [for slam titles]? In my opinion, if you want to be the best player in the world you have to be able to give a sustained effort day in, day out. That’s what separates the good from the great.

We’ve all seen what he’s capable of doing, but we’ve also seen what happens when his mind isn’t there.

Nick has a big personality and is a tremendous talent, and I hope he gets it and becomes what I believe he can be: the best player in the world.”
