Grigor Dimitrov is one of the all-time successful tennis players with Bulgarian descent. He is the only Bulgarian male tennis player to make into the top 10 ATP singles list, having been ranked number 3 in 2017. In terms of prize money, he is the lone male tennis player from Bulgaria to reach the $15 million mark.

Bio

Dimitrov was born on 16th May 1991, in Haskovo Bulgaria. The 28-year-old makes good use of his 6 ft and 3 inches (1.90 m) while playing tennis. He is right-handed, just like most tennis players. Besides, he speaks fluent Bulgarian and English. His interests include watches, computers, cars, and sports in general.

Career

Before turning pro in 2008, Dimitrov, just like many professional tennis players had to climb through the ranks. Dimitrov performed pretty well in his junior career, where he was ranked the best in the world, having won both the 2008 US Open and 2008 Wimbledon Championships Slams. In 2019, he defeated Roger Federer at the US Open. This marked his first career win over Federer after 8 matches to also reach his 3rd slam final 4.

Dimitrov decided to turn pro in 2008. He took part in several men’s events, winning his first title in Barcelona. So far, he has 8 ATP singles titles to his name, having won in the UK, Cincinnati, Sofia, Brisbane, Queens Club, Romania, Stockholm, and Mexico. He has also posted exemplary results in the following tournaments, Australian Open, French Open, US Open, Tour finals, Olympic Games, and Hopman Cup. He was ranked number 3 on 20th November 2017. Currently, he is at the 789th position.

Over the years, Dimitrov has been trained by various great coaches which are, Peter Lundgren, Peter McNamara, Patrick Mouratoglou, Roger Rasheed, Franco Davin, Daniel Vallverdu. Currently, he is under the coaching of Andre Agassi and Radek Stepanek.

Dimitrov got into a relationship with Maria Sharapova towards the end of 2012. The two called it quits in 2015 and Dimitrov started dating Nicole Scherzinger. Although they have been rumors about their relationship getting rocky, it’a not clear if the two are still an item.

The Bulgarian will take on Medvedev in the semifinal. The head to head is 1-1.

The last time that they fought against each other, Medvedev won 6-4 6-2 in the 3rd round in Washington in August 2017.
