Muguruza concedes 1 game to Simona Halep to win the Cincinnati title

Garbine Muguruza wins a sensational title in Cincinnati!

The Spaniard had to overcome a couple of tough matches early in the tournament: in the second round, she defeated Madison Keys after saving 3 match points; in the third round, she beat Svetlana Kuznetsova after 3 sets marathon that lasted almost 3 hours. Then the Spanish no.1 conceded only 5 games to the world no.1 Karolina Pliskova in the semifinal (6-3 6-2) and on Sunday she dropped just 1 game against Simona Halep in the final.

The final

There is no much to comment about the final against Simona Halep. The Romanian was once again 1 step from reaching the world no.1 rank, but again she couldn’t make it, and everything became a sort of nightmare for Simona that had to concede that Garbine was just “too good.”

The contest ended after only 56 minutes, and the result was a stern 6-1 6-0.

This was my best match of the tournament. MUGURUZA

Garbine was absolutely elated with her win to comment

“I think today was my best performance of the tournament, because I felt like I played 20 hours on that court, you know. I had very long matches.

It was just there. I think I did few little mistakes and my shots were very [well] placed, and I think I was doing almost everything right there.

Since the first ball, honestly, I knew there was going to be a lot of long rallies, and she’s a very solid player and, you know, very tough, as well. I was ready for it. I was looking to play my game, to be aggressive from the first moment.”

This is Garbine’s 5th career title, the 2nd of the season after Wimbledon.

WHAT A TITLE!
