Grigor Dimitrov wins his maiden Master ATP1000 in Cincinnati!

The Bulgarian took full advantage of the struggle of most of the other top10 players to finally win a well-deserved title in Cincinnati without dropping a single set on the way after beating Nick Kyrgios in the final.

Probably, the most important part of the final was in middle of the first set. In fact, Grigor held his service after saving a break point in both the 5th (3-2) and the 7th (5-2) games and in between he managed to break Kyrgios in the 6th game (4-2). After winning the first set (6-3), Dimitrov was remarkably steady on his serve, but he wasn’t able to break Nick until the 11th game (6-5). Eventually, the Bulgarian won the match 6-3 7-5.

Soon after the match, Grigor commented

“I’m just happy. There’s nothing else I can say, honestly. I’m just happy, and I’m humbled to have that trophy in my hands, and especially to win here, my first Masters 1000.

It’s just amazing. I always like this tournament. I have played it quite a few times and always thought this can be maybe one of the first ones, and it is the first one.”

This is Dimitrov’s 7^th career title, the 3^rd of his fantastic year and now he is definitely one of the favorites to win the upcoming US Open.
