Isner reaches the Cincinnati semi-final

John Isner had a weird run in Cincinnati where he has defeated 3 #nextgen Americans back to back until he has reached the semi-final. John has beaten Tommy Paul in the second round (6-3 6-3), Frances Tiafoe (7-6 7-5), and now Donaldson (7-6 7-5).

The match

The contest against Donaldson was completely dominated by the serves with Isner firing 25 aces (!!!) without conceding a single break point. The opening set went straight to the breaker (John won that at 4); the second set was decided by the only break of the match (11th game).

I am happy to be still alive. ISNER

In the post-match press conference, John commented

“I’ve been playing all of the young Americans, and I’m fortunate to have gotten through all of them so far. I know I don’t have one tomorrow, but I’m very happy to be still alive here. Of course, it’s one of my favorite tournaments, and I’m playing well. I’m playing great. Just looking forward to tomorrow.”

The semifinal against Dimitrov

Isner will play the semifinal against Grigor Dimitrov. The head to head is 1-0 for the American.
