Simona Halep in the Cincinnati quarters

Simona Halep advances in Cincinnati to be, once again, closer to the world no.1 rank. In fact, the Romanian needs to win the title to overtake Karolina Pliskova for the top spot and, being now in the quarters, she is 3 steps away from that.

The match vs. Sevastova

Simona didn’t  play her best tennis in the third round against Anastasija Sevastova, but that was still good enough to win in straight sets. After winning the first 2 games (2-0), Simona conceded the next 4 (2-4). Soon after the Romanian enjoyed her best moment in the match after she conquered 7 consecutive games to grab a 6-4 3-0 lead that was crucial for the world no.2 to win the contest. The final result was 6-4 6-3.

I am still winning.HALEP

Even if Simona is well aware that she is not playing at her very best, she is still happy about winning.

Halep commented

“I had a tough run. I’m not playing my best tennis at this moment, but I’m still winning. I win against the 15th player in the world playing not as I want and I’m really happy about it.”

Next vs. Jo Konta

Simona will face Jo Konta in the quarter final for the 4th time in 2017. The head to head is 3-2 for the Brit that has defeated Simona on 2 occasions this year. This will be another tough test for Simona.
