Muguruza concedes only 2 games in Cincinnati opener

Garbine Muguruza starts her Cincinnati campaign with a solid 6-2 6-0 win over Beatriz Haddad Maia.

The entity of the score was a beat too punishing for the Brazilian that has lost a lot of “tight games,” especially in the first set. The difference was Garbine’s ability in taking advantage of Maia’s second serve as the Spaniard won 11 points of 12 in the opening set. Then, the second set was a bit smoother for Garbine.

There were many tight games. MUGURUZA

In the post-match press conference, Garbine commented

“I felt like a lot of games were super tight. She’s super tall; big serve with big shots. It was a strange result because the match was pretty good. I feel like yesterday I was playing on the grass, and now I’m here. I’m happy to be in the third round here.”

Garbine will face either Daria Kasaktina of Madison Keys in the second round.

A GREAT START
