Kyrgios demolishes Goffin

Nick Kyrgios has a fantastic start of his Cincinnati campaign after he defeated David Goffin 6-2 6-3.

Nick was extremely solid in his service game; he was able to save 4 (of 4) break points to break David twice in the opening set and once in the second.

The most important part of the match was when the Australian won 5 consecutive games to conquer a 6-2 1-0 lead (from 2-2). The contest ended after 66 minutes, and that is good news for Kyrgios that is desperate for not putting too much pressure on his frail body.

On the other side, David wasn’t at his best to call for a medical time out to attend a knee injury.

I served well in the crucial moments. KYRGIOS

Soon after the match, Nick commented

“Obviously, seeing David Goffin in the first round was a bit of a surprise to me.

I think we both played each other in the final [ATP500] not too long ago. I knew it was going to be very tough. He obviously wasn’t at 100 per cent today, but you know I’m not at 100 per cent either so it was a bit of a battle. But I served well at crucial moments. I’m feeling okay. I think as long as I can keep putting in performances like these and being able to compete I think I’m okay.”

Next vs. Dolgopolov

Nick will face Alexander Dolgopolov in the second round. They have never played each other so far.

A GOOD WIN
