Zverev triumphs in Montreal!

Alexander Zverev is not the next big thing; he is already a big thing!

The 20-year-old from German wins his back to back tournament in North America. After winning the Citi Open in Washington, Sascha also conquers the Rogers Cup after beating Federer in the final in just 68 minutes!

The final and the back injury

Sascha had a great start against Roger to capture a 4-1 lead after he broke Roger in the 4th game (3-1). That was enough for the German to win the opening set 6-3.

The second set was “regular” until the 7th game when it looked clear that Federer had a problem with his back. Roger wasn’t able to serve anymore, and he was also not moving well during the return games. Eventually, the Swiss had to surrender, and Sascha won the match 6-3 6-4.

It’s amazing winning 2 ATP1000. ZVEREV

Sascha is having a fantastic 2017 with 5 titles (2 ATP1000, 1 ATP500, and 2 ATP250). The German commented

“Winning two Masters 1000 titles in the same year is something amazing. I played well winning Washington and here. It’s something amazing, back-to-back weeks. I feel great. I feel like I’m playing some of the best tennis of my life.

But Cincinnati is a very tough draw. I don’t know if I will be able to go far there because I am a little bit tired. But game-wise and confidence-wise, I’m super happy the way everything is standing.”

At this point, it is fair to say that Zverev will be a top contender for the world no.1 rank in 2018. Also, he might not be competitive in Cincinnati (tired), but he has definitely a shot at the US Open.
