Maria Sharapova received a wildcard for the main draw of Cincinnati where she was supposed to play Jelena Ostapenko in the opener.
The match-up made the headlines, but eventually we will not be so lucky to see the clash because Maria has withdrawn citing her ongoing injury to her left arm.
Maria said that she is missing Cincinnati “as a precaution for the US Open,” but she still needs to receive a wildcard from the slam if she wants to play in the main draw because she is still ranked no.149.
Maria has a grim 6-4 win-loss record since she is back from her well-known ban. Everyone was expecting more than that.
NOT A GREAT COMEBACK
