Federer reaches the Montreal final

Roger Federer is inches away from winning his 3rd ATP1000 of the season. The Swiss legend dismissed a good Robin Haase in the final in straight sets.

Roger’s performance on his serve was amazing with the notable exception of the 3rd game of the first set when he dropped his serve at 15 (2-1). That wasn’t a big problem for the Swiss that broke his opponent in the previous game (2-0) and soon after (3-1). Besides that moment, Roger has never conceded more than 1 point on his serve for each game, and he dropped only 1 point in the entire second set on serve.

After winning the first set, Federer had to battle till the breaker in the 2nd. Roger conquered a decisive 4-1 lead in the tiebreak before winning the match 6-3 7-6 (4).

Happy I saved a lot of energy. FEDERER

Roger has reached this final after dropping just 1 set on the way and without spending too much time on court. This is great news for Roger that will be completely fresh in his bid for the Montreal title, and he should have enough fuel in the tank to be competitive in the following week in Cincinnati. Roger commented on his decision to compete in Montreal

“I’m very happy that I’ve made it here. It was a good decision for me. If I would have known I would have gone to the finals, I would have said ‘yes’ right away. Sometimes you’ve just got to wait and see how you feel. I’m most happy that I’m actually really healthy going into the finals. I haven’t wasted too much energy. I’ve been able to keep points short. I’ve been really clean at the net. I think my concentration and just my playing has gone up a notch. I’m just playing better.”
