Svitolina is rising fast in the rankings

Elina Svitolina

Big changes are happening in the live rankings during this US Open edition.

Naomi Osaka, Ashleigh Barty, Karolina Pliskova, and Simona Halep are the top4 players in the WTA rankings and all of them lost before the quarters. The result is that Ashleigh Barty is now the new world no.1 as Naomi Osaka lost 1760 points for not being able to defend her title.

Elina Svitolina’s rising

Eventually, the big mover in the live rankings is Elina Svitolina that after reaching the US Open semifinal, gains 540 points to overtake Simona Halep and Naomi Osaka. This means that the Ukrainian secures the world no.3 rank from next week and that matches her career-high.

Furthermore, Elina can go 1 step further if she wins the US Open to be the new world no.2.

1- Ashleigh Barty    6501 + 1
2- Karolina Pliskova 6125 + 1
3- Elina Svitolina     5032 +2 —> 6252 if she wins the US Open
4- Naomi Osaka      4846 -3
5- Simona Halep     4803 -1

Will Svitolina face Serena Williams in the semifinal?

Elina is projected to face Serena Williams in the semifinal. The American is the overwhelming favorite in her match against Qiang Wang if she is fully fit. The former world no.1 got slightly injured to her ankle in her previous match against Petra Martic.

Elina has a negative 1-4 record against Serena (details).
