Roger Federer and Rafale Nadal are once again the top seeds in an ATP1000 Master event. While Rafael Nadal had a pretty tough draw, Roger Federer seems to have an easier path to the final.

Federer

Roger has a bye in the first round, and in the second he will face a Canadian wildcard that will be either Vasek Pospisil or Peter Polansky. Then Roger should face Jack Sock, Kei Nishikori, Dominic Thiem or Grigor Dimitrov before getting to the final.

This draw looks good because Sock and Nishikori are having a deep run right now in Washington (that means less energy for Montreal). Furthermore, Thiem is approachable on hard court, and Grigor Dimitrov didn’t seem to be at his best in Washington where he was brushed aside by the world no.50 Daniil Medvedev (6-4 6-2).

Roger has won the Rogers Cup in 2004 and 2006.

Nadal

Rafa wasn’t lucky with his draw to possibly play Coric, Isner or Del Potro, Raonic, Zverev.

This draw is a bit rough because Coric is a tough customer, especially for a first match. Isner can beat anyone if he is in a good day; Raonic often has deep runs at the home tournament; Zverev is the next big thing, and besides their last match in Monte Carlo, he has always created huge problems to the Spaniard.

Rafa has won the event in 2005 and 2008.

Possible quarters

Nadal – Raonic
Zverev – Tsonga
Dimitrov – Thiem
Federer – Nishikori
