US OPEN. Why Federer likes Dimitrov

Roger Federer and Grigor Dimitrov are about to lock horns in the quarterfinal at the US Open for the 8th time of their career.

The Bulgarian sensation has always been linked to Roger because of his style and his backhand that is rather similar to the Swiss. Grigor used to be nicknamed “Baby Federer” at the beginning of his career. Even if that was flattering for Dimitrov, the world no.78 wasn’t entirely happy with that as it set very high expectations.

The relationship and H2H

Roger and Dimitrov have always enjoyed a special relationship. After his 4th round, during his press conference, Federer commented:

“I practiced with him in Cincy. He was the guy I practiced with first when I just came off the plane. I know Grigor very well. He’s a good friend of mine. It was fun having him also at the Laver Cup last time around. I spent a week there with him.

I’m happy that things are going better for him after he won Cincinnati a couple years ago now, last year, a couple years ago I guess it is now. Also the World Tour Finals. He had a bit of a slump.”
