Zverev wins match at 2am in Washington

Sascha Zverev had a long day in Washington on Thursday.

The German had to wait till very late to start his match against Tennys Sandgren after the tournament has been plagued with the rain during the day.

Even if Sascha possesses a better game than his opponent, he had to be careful because playing so late in the night can definitely affect the “psychology of the match.” The German won the first set after he achieved the decisive break in the 11th game. After Zverev broke Tennys in the first game of the second set, it seemed as the world no.8 was destined to win the match without more struggle. Eventually, the American broke back in the following game and once again the set became a dogfight that was again decided in the 11th game when Sascha won another break. The German won the contest 7-5 7-5.

Next vs. Medvedev

Sascha will face Daniil Medvedev in the quarters as the Russian upset Dimitrov in the 3rd round 6-4 6-2. Zverev leads Medvedev 1-0, but this is not going to be easy.
