Simona Halep has tough draw in Washington

The Romanian will play Sloane Stephens in the opener

Unlucky draw in Washington for Simona Halep.

The Romanian has accepted a wild card to play the WTA event in DC to get ready for the North American swing, but she wasn’t lucky with the draw.

Simona will face Sloane Stephens (also a wild card) in the opener. The American is currently ranked 336 as she has been struggling with injuries, but we all know that she has the power to defeat anyone on tour. Simona leads Sloane 3-2 on head to head matches, but Stephens leads 2-1 on hard courts.

If the Romanian beats Sloane, she should face Rogers, then Makarova, and Davis. If Simona gets to the final, he may play the seed no.2 Kiki Mladenovic for he title.

Possible quarters

Halep – Makarova
Davis – Dodin
Niculescu – Goerges
McHale – Mladenovic
