Carla Suarez Navarro didn’t enjoy her stay at the US Open. In fact, the world no.33 had to withdraw in the 1st round when she was playing against Timea Babos after she was trailing 2-6. The Spaniard had to succumb to a problem to her back.
Lack of effort
The Spaniard was later slammed with a tough $40.000 fine because she “did not perform to the required professional standards.”
The tournament referee Soeren Friemel released the following comment:
“After reviewing reports from the medical staff and the Grand Slam supervisors, the determination was made that Carla Suarez Navarro did not perform to the required professional standards.”

“Not the easiest weeks for me dealing with some back pain. We made our best effort to be ready and play our heart out, but it got really worse during my opening match in New York. Sad to leave this way from events I deeply appreciate.”
