Muguruza: "Venus Williams my role model"

Garbine Muguruza wins her 2nd slam in Wimbledon after she defeated Venus Williams in the final 7-5 6-0.

The Spaniard is 14 years younger than Venus, and she grew up seeing the American winning titles after titles.

During the post-match press conference, Garbine admitted that she was happy to play (and then beat) Venus because the American was a role model for her.

“You know, she has won here five times, so she knows how to play,” she commented. “I was so excited to go out there and win, especially over a role model.

“I was expecting the best Venus because she was playing very good and I knew she was going to make me suffer for it. I was very nervous and tense. I wanted it to go my way.

But when I had those set points against me, I’m like: ‘Hey, it’s normal. I’m playing Venus here.’ So, I just kept fighting. And I knew I was going to eventually have an opportunity.”

Garbine is still 2-3 down in head to head matches against the American, but this last win was pretty sweet.
