Muguruza reaches the Wimbledon semi-final!

Garbine Muguruza is getting closer and closer to winning her first Wimbledon title. In the quarters, the 2015 runner-up defeated an always dangerous Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-3 6-4 after breaking her opponent once per set.

After this match, Garbine will also be back in the top10.

It means a lot. MUGURUZA

In the post-match press conference, Garbine commented

“It means a lot. Especially since that final, and last year losing in second round, to be able to go deep in the tournament still with chances.

I’m very happy and very pleased also with this match because obviously, Kuznetsova is a very tough opponent. We all know she has been and is a great player. I managed to play a good level during all the match. I earned the victory.”

I think a lot of things have to click to be able to win a major. I think I’m feeling pretty good. I’m being aggressive and not doing a lot of errors that maybe I could sometimes do. So, it’s a bunch of things. Being physically good, as well, with all the matches.

If you put everything together and in place, you can maybe have a very good performance.”

The semis vs. Rybarikova

Garbine will face a surprising Magdalena Rybarikova in the semi-final. The Slovakian defeated Coco Vandeweghe 6-3 6-3 after making the headlines earlier in the tournament when she defeated the new world no.1 Karolina Pliskova in the 2nd round.

The head to head is 2-2, but it’s 1-0 for Rybarikova on grass after she defeated the Spaniard 6-3 6-1 in the first round in Birmingham in 2015 (the same year that Garbine reached the Wimbledon final).
