Venus Williams beats Ostapenko to roar into the Wimbledon semi-final

Venus Williams plays a magnificent quarter in Wimbledon to defeat the Roland Garros champion Jelena Ostapenko in straight sets.

Venus took full advantage of her experience to make Ostapenko uncomfortable from the very beginning. Venus was particularly impressive with her serve since the very beginning when she made a huge statement in the opening game after she blasted 3 aces.

After winning the first set 6-3, the American had to edge Ostapenko in the second. The Latvian refused to go away, but she was clearly struggling with her returns. Venus broke Jelena gain in the 4th game (3-1), but then she conceded her service game later (3-3) Eventually, the former world no.1 conquered the decisive break in the 11th game to capture the match with a 6-3 7-5 scoreline.

This was the end of an 11—match Slam stretch for the Latvian. Still a terrific run and more to come.

The love of the game helped me. VENUS

In the post-match press conference, Venus commented

“I love the challenge. I love pressure. It’s not always easy dealing with the pressure. There’s constant pressure. It’s only yourself who can have the answer for that.

I love the last day you play; you’re still improving. It’s not something that is stagnant. There’s always a reason. You have to get better. I love that… The competition keeps you growing. You have to get better if you want to stay relevant.”

The semis vs. Konta

Venus will play Home favorite Jo Konta in the semi-final after the Briton denied Halep of reaching the world no.1 rank.

The head to head is 3-2 for Konta, but Venus beat her in their last matches in Rome in 3 sets.

Game on.
