Djokovic still too much for Gulbis

Ernests Gulbis looked extremely dangerous ahead of his match against Novak Djokovic in Wimbledon following his straight sets win against Del Potro in the previous round.

The Latvian started extremely well against Djokovic to grab an early break (2-1) before leading the opener 4-2. Then Gulbis disappeared to lose nine consecutive games and trail on a 4-6 0-5 scoreline. Ernests found his range again, but it was too late, and he lost the match 6-4 6-1 7-6 (2).

I am happy I won in three sets. DJOKOVIC

Soon after the match, Nole admitted he was relieved he won the match in straight sets to comment

“Gulbis is someone that is very unpredictable and has a huge serve, a very powerful and fast game from back of the court. It’s not easy to play against him on this surface.

I’m really pleased that I managed to win in straight sets, especially since he started serving better in the third set. He kind of gave it a last shot. I thought he played a good level of tennis, but I managed to hang on and play a very good tie-break. That can only can boost my confidence level for whatever is coming up next.”

Next vs. Mannarino

Nole will face Adrian Mannarino in the 4th round. The Frenchman has recently reached the final in Antalya, and he defeated Monfils 7-6(3), 4-6, 5-7, 6-3, 6-2 in the Wimbledon 3rd round.  The head to head is 1-0 for Djokovic that defeated Mannarino last year I Wimbledon in straight sets.
