Federer breezes to the Wimbledon 3rd round

Roger Federer has another good performance in Wimbledon even if he struggled a bit with his nerves at the beginning of his 2nd round against Dusan Lajovic.

As per Roger’s admission, he was extremely tense to immediately lose his serve in the 2nd game of the match against the Serbian. Then, Roger broke back immediately soon after (1-2) to win the opening set in the tiebreak at 0. Things got much easier in the following two sets after Federer broke his opponent three more times without conceding break points. The Swiss won this contest 7-6 (0) 6-3 6-2.

I don’t know why I was so nervous. FEDERER

Roger gave some interesting insights in the post-match press conference

“I think I just struggled early on. I was feeling nerves for some reason. Not sure why. But I was able to come back in the set, breaking at 2-0. I think it was big for me… Then I played a great ‘breaker. I think from then on I never looked back.

I got early breaks in sets two and three and was able to protect my serve in a good way. He never really found ways to get into my service games on first and second serves. That obviously relaxes you, and then you can go for more on the return.

I think in the third round I will feel better again. It’s weird how sometimes you can be way more nervous for a second round than, say, for a final, believe it or not.

I’m happy I got through this one feeling the way I did because in a way it’s strange playing this way when you’re so tense. You have nothing to lose or in a way, that’s what I’m telling myself, just play freely. It’s not just that simple once you get out there.”

Next vs. Mischa Zverev

Roger will face Mischa Zverev in the 3rd round. The head to head is 4-0 for Roger that has never conceded a single set to the German.
