Coco Gauff may be hailed as one of tennis’ next big stars but that does not mean that this young player does not experience what many other families face. A member of her own family made a controversial move that raised the eyebrows of many fans of the star. Also, the massive costs that come with training as a young tennis player has been revealed, making people admire Gauff’s parents more.
Coco’s father gets sued
Coco Gauff’s grandmother has apparently sued her own son over the ownership of the Paradise Sports Lounge in Delray Beach, Florida. The woman, Dr. Deborah Wright accused her son, Corey, of pushing her out of the management of the sports bar even though she invested around $500,000 of her own retirement money into its operations. According to Larry Brown Sports. Wright wants to get sole ownership of the bar and is also seeking damages that will not go beyond $15,000.
She further says that her son has been forging documents without her knowledge just so that he would become manager. As one of the investors, she was supposed to have a say in the operations and hiring processes that is happening in the sports bar. The court documents filed to support the complaint has also hit Corey for not being in the restaurant enough because he is busy with Coco’s own tennis career.
The bar garnered a lot of attention last month after it was the site of joyous friends and members of the Gauff family during Coco’s Wimbledon matches. In fact, a video where the crowd erupted after Gauff won during a Wimbledon match became viral on social media.
Coco’s parents inspire
Even though a lot of people are calling Gauff a prodigy, her father disagreed. He does not think that her daughter is a prodigy because it entails that she was an overnight success. He wants to emphasize that his daughter works hard on being a tennis player.
Gauff, on the other hand, says that what people call her does not really matter to her as it will only put more pressure on her. Even negative comments are something that she actively avoids now, according to Business Insider.
Meanwhile, the estimated cost of training a young player to become a professional tennis ace has been revealed! According to Fox Business, enrolling at a prestigious tennis academy can range from $50,000 to $100,000 a year while other expenses can go up to $3,000 a week. This only highlights how parents like Coco’s sacrifice a lot so that their children can pursue their passions.

Ranked no.140 (career-high), the American has a 11-5 win-loss record in 2019. Cori is currently playing at the U.S. Open where she defeated Anastasia Potapova 3-6 6-2 6-4.
