Halep strong to the Wimbledon 3rd round

Simona Halep had a great performance against a dangerous Beatriz Haddad Maia in the Wimbledon 2nd round. The Romanian had to fight hard at the beginning of the match after she lost the first three games. Simona fought back in style to make it even (3-3), but then she was broken again (3-5). Finally, the Romanian won 4 consecutive games to conquer the first set (7-5).  A similar script happened in the second set when Halep won 4 straight games once more after she was 2-3 down. The final score was 7-5 6-3.

The key was being calm. HALEP

Simona explained what was important to win the match.

“I wasn’t not panicking today,” Halep commented. “I just was waiting to start feeling the rhythm because I knew she’s hitting strong before the match. I knew that I have just to push back her and to give some balls back, like many, to feel the rhythm, to feel her power. Then was much easier to open the court, to hit stronger and to stay very low.

I think was a very good match. Every moment was important during this match. I felt that she’s also good mentally. So, I had to stay there and to stay calm.”
