Wawrinka upset in the 1st round in Wimbledon

Stan Wawrinka is a fantastic champion, but his relationship with the grass courts is rather ugly.

The world no.3 fell in the 1st round at Queens, to fall again in the Wimbledon opener at the hands of Daniil Medvedev. The Swiss has never given the impression that he could get to his usual tennis level against the Russian. After splitting the first two sets, Stan had no answers in the following two to lose 6-4 3-6 6-4 6-1.

Unfortunately, Stan was struggling with a knee injury, but still, it was a great in for Daniil.

My biggest win. MEDVEDEV

The 21-year-old from Russia was elated with this win that came on his birthday. Daniil hasn’t won a single match in a major and getting this win on the Wimbledon center court against the world no.3 is something that he will never forget.

The Russian commented

“First of all, it’s my first Grand Slam win. So even if I didn’t beat Stan, it would be one of the biggest wins in my life.

I have no words to describe this. I guess this memory will be with me forever.

It’s a very strange feeling to go out there. It’s like you have a fear, you’re tight, but you want to show your best. You want to beat Stan Wawrinka on Centre Court so that people can know more about you. It was just something special. I don’t know how to explain it.”

Next vs. Bemelmans

Medvedev will face the world no. 124 Ruben Bemelmans in the 2nd round. They have never played each other so far. Can he surprise again?
