Bianca Andreescu’s coach Sylvain Bruneau is confident that she has the talent to beat anyone on her day and she is capable of winning the US Open this year.
The 19-year-old is having a good 2019. She has won two titles this season. Bianca triumphed in Indian Wells and the Rogers Cup tournaments this year. The last one was a great comeback for Bianca after a long layoff.
Bianca needs to improve her serve and physical strength
The coach is highly appreciative of the surprise comeback of Bianca. He says: “It does, noting her long layoff. It does, I must say because what happened with her injuries, very little tennis, that she comes here and wins the whole thing, it’s pretty amazing. On the first day, to be honest. I was surprised at the level she played, just to be at the tournament was a win for us.”
However, the coach has a word of caution and says that there are areas in which Bianca needs to improve to have a better chance in big tournaments. The coach pointed out two things as areas of improvement for Bianca; one is her service and the other is her physical strength. The coach said:
“We’re going to keep working on her serving, and I think there are things she can still get better at. I want her into the net a little bit more, and strategy… she has a lot of tools inside her toolbox, so when to use them and when not to.”
“And she’s a great athlete, but physically she can get stronger.”
Andreescu’s injuries to her shoulder and groin
Bianca needs to get stronger to avoid being injured. This year she was sidelined for many months because of a shoulder injury. Later she had to skip Cincinnati because of a problem to her groin.
Despite her injuries and still average service, Bianca still has a great chance to win the US Open because she can create a variety of angle and she is a good athlete and on her day she can beat the best in the business. The coach says:
“No. I’m not saying she’s beating everybody, but I think she has her chance against everybody.”
