Novak Djokovic has just started his run at the US Open where he is considered as the top favorite even if he is nursing an injury.
The Serbian sensation won an incredible Wimbledon final in July when he defeated Roger Federer after he saved 2 consecutive championship points on Federer’s serve. That title means that Djokovic has now 16 slams and given his level, he has decent chances of catching Roger’s actual slam-record (20). Furthermore, winning the Championships helped the Serb to cement his world no.1 status. Therefore, if he keeps it for another year, he will overtake the Swiss as the player that stayed the most at the top of the rankings.
Losing Wimbledon should still hurt Federer. IVANISEVIC
Novak has been partnering with Goran Ivanisevic that has probably contributed to Djokovic’s propensity to go more to the net.
During a recent interview with the New York Time, Goran commented:
“It has to hurt; it has to hurt still [for Federer]. There’s no way it can’t.” Talking about Djokovic, Ivanisevic added: “When you win that kind of match the way Novak won it at Wimbledon, it gives you the confidence to the roof.”
Will Federer and Djokovic clash at the US Open
Roger and Novak are on a collision course at the Flushing Meadows as they and they may play each other in the semifinal. Before that, Djokovic needs to probably overcame his Cincinnati conqueror Daniil Medvedev in the quarters. On the other side, Federer may clash against Nishikori in the last 8.
Djokovic’s injury
As anticipated, Novak is nursing an injury for at least 10 days. Even if the Serbian legend refused to disclose which part of his body is struggling, there are speculations that he has a problem again to his elbow. If so, that would be quite worrisome for Djokovic that used to be sidelined for long when he hurt his elbow back in 2017.
