Felix Auger Aliassime and his dear friend Denis Shapovalov are going to clash against each other for the 2nd consecutive year in the 1st round of the US Open.
Back in 2018, Denis was the better-ranked player and Felix had to make his way through the qualifications. Eventually, Auger Aliassime had the “bad” surprise to be opposed to Denis in the 1st round of the main draw, and that ended in a rather bad way.

The Canadians split the first 2 sets in a rather exciting contest. Unfortunately, all of the sudden Felix had to withdraw in the 3rd set because of an irregular heartbeat. Later in the year, Auger Aliassime managed to correct the problem with a small procedure.

During a recent interview, Denis explained that they managed to shrug off what happened soon after the match to comment:
“A couple hours later I was getting treatment at the hotel. We were staying at the same place, so I just ‘said come on over’. We just started laughing about it; just talking, the tennis part of it was gone and we were just able to be friends at that moment.
I thought it was actually an amazing moment because you go from something so traumatic and so scary to a couple of hours later we were joking about it like it’s nothing and we were back to being good buds.”

Ranked no.19 (career-high), Felix played his last match on the 12th of August when he lost Miomir Kecmanovic 6-3 6-3 in the 1st round in Cincinnati.

Ranked no.33, Shapovalov has played his last match on the 23rd of August when he lost Hubert Hurkacz 6-3 6-4 in the semifinal in Winston-Salem Open.
