Jelena Ostapenko got the world by surprise after she won the Roland Garros coming from nowhere. It was well known that the Latvian is hugely talented, but no one thought she had any chance to conquer a slam so early. Eventually, Jelena got this trophy showing fearless tennis after blasting winning after winner for all over the places from the beginning till the final.
Being free was key
In the post-match press conference, the Latvian commented
“Before the match [the final], 5-10 minutes, I was a little bit nervous. But then, when I went on court, I felt quite free.
I felt a little bit nervous. But then I felt: ‘I have nothing to lose, so I’m just going to enjoy the match and do my best.'”
After this title, Jelena will be ranked no.12 in the world. It is now interesting to see what she is going to achieve in Wimbledon. She won the Championships as a junior, can she do it again among the grown-ups?
