Simona Halep was the overwhelming favorite to win this French Open and become the new world no.1.

Eventually, in the final the Romanian that to endure an extremely tough defeat at the hands of a surprising Jelena Ostapenko. From a psychological point of view this would be an extremely tough loss to digest also because after winning the 1st set, Simona was leading 3-0 in the second set and 3-1 in the third. Then, Ostapenko took charge of the situation with her amazing ball striking.

During the post-match press conference, Simona showed her mental toughness to comment

“It’s a tough moment for me, but it’s gonna go away, I hope, with the time,” Halep said afterward. “I will keep working because I really want to repeat what I have done this tournament. We will see what is gonna be.”

“Sometimes I felt like a spectator,” said Simona praising her opponent “I was close again, but I lost it. She deserved to win; she played very well.”

“I can just look forward.  If needed I will play 20 years to have this moment.”

One thing is sure: Simona wants and deserves her first slam. Let’s see when she will get that!
