Emma Raducanu closed her 2025 campaign earlier than expected after struggling with health issues during the Asian swing. At the Ningbo Open, she fell to Zhu Lin in three sets, appearing visibly fatigued and requiring medical checks during the match. A recurrence of lower-back problems left her barely able to move in the decider, prompting her to shut down her season in mid-October to avoid further strain.
Reflecting on her year
The British star, ranked World No. 29, finished the season with a 28-22 win-loss record. Her highlights included a semifinal run in Washington and quarterfinal appearances in Miami and at the Queen’s Club championships. Despite these achievements, Raducanu admitted that the heavy schedule had taken a toll on her body and overall well-being.
Plans for 2026
Speaking to the Tennis Gazette, Raducanu revealed that she intends to reduce her workload in the upcoming season. “I would say next year I hope to play less than I did this year, but I think also just incorporating into my warm ups fitness, so it’s not just my fitness sessions which are set for it. You just have to try and drip feed as much as you can in for the overall health of your body, little and often, is the biggest thing that has helped,” she explained.
Her new approach emphasizes balance, with fitness integrated into daily routines rather than isolated sessions, aiming to preserve her health and consistency throughout the year.
A happier mindset
Raducanu also spoke about her improved mental outlook. “Most of all, I just think I have found a lot more peace with myself, and I am a lot happier with how I am approaching my tennis and how I’m approaching the team I have and what we are building and the environment we have,”
she said. She highlighted the importance of her support team, crediting their collaborative environment for helping her regain confidence and positivity.
Partnership with Francisco Roig
Looking ahead, Raducanu will continue working with Francisco Roig, Rafael Nadal’s former coach, whom she brought into her team in August 2025. Their partnership is expected to play a key role in shaping her 2026 season, as she seeks to combine a lighter schedule with a more sustainable and fulfilling approach to the sport.
Fans will be eager to see how Raducanu’s new philosophy translates on court as she aims to build momentum and rediscover her best form.
