For the first time, tennis will be played inside the Miami Marlins’ home stadium. The Miami Invitational, scheduled for December 8 at loanDepot Park, will bring together some of the sport’s most exciting names for a one-day exhibition. The event marks a new chapter for the venue, traditionally known for baseball, as it opens its doors to world-class tennis.
Star-Studded Lineup
World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz will headline the exhibition, joined by No. 42 João Fonseca, No. 4 Amanda Anisimova, and No. 33 Emma Raducanu. The format includes two singles matches, each played as best-of-three sets with a 10-point tiebreaker deciding the third set if needed.
Women’s Clash: Anisimova vs. Raducanu
Amanda Anisimova, who reached the finals at both the U.S. Open and Wimbledon this year, will face Emma Raducanu, the 2021 U.S. Open champion. Their meeting is expected to showcase contrasting styles and highlight the depth of talent in women’s tennis.
Men’s Showdown: Alcaraz vs. Fonseca
Following the women’s match, six-time major champion Carlos Alcaraz will take on Brazil’s top-ranked singles player, João Fonseca. At just 19 years old, Fonseca represents the next generation of South American tennis, making this their first-ever meeting on court.
Growing the Game
Molly Pendleton, senior vice president at Unified Events, emphasized the broader vision behind the exhibition. “To feature two of the brightest women’s stars in Anisimova and Raducanu alongside the first ever meeting between Alcaraz and Fonseca should create an unforgettable experience for fans while helping grow the game of tennis,” said Pendleton.
A New Stage for Tennis
The Miami Invitational is designed not only as a showcase of elite talent but also as a way to expand tennis into new venues and audiences. By hosting the event at loanDepot Park, organizers hope to attract both tennis enthusiasts and sports fans curious to see the game in a fresh setting.
