Roger Federer has opened up about the unique connection forged through his battles with Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. The Swiss legend explained how years of competition created a bond that goes beyond the court. “Rivalries like that create a huge bond. Today I see it very differently than before, with much more perspective,” Federer said.

Different perspectives among the Big 3

Federer noted that his view of the rivalry has evolved since retiring, while Nadal and Djokovic are still immersed in their careers. “Novak still doesn’t understand it. Rafa is gradually grasping it. When you’re still playing, you can’t think about it the way I do now,” he reflected.

Time brings clarity

The 20-time Grand Slam champion emphasized how distance from competition changes the way players see their journey. “The more time passes, the less you identify as an individual player and the more you see the bigger picture. The funny thing is that someone could have taken something completely to heart, and then you don’t even remember it,” Federer explained.

Desire to reminisce

Federer expressed his wish to reconnect with Nadal and Djokovic to reflect on their shared history. “I’d love to sit down and chat about the old days,” he said, highlighting the enduring respect and bond among the Big 3 that defined modern tennis.
