Carlos Alcaraz, one of the brightest stars in tennis, recently spoke about the presence of psychologist Isabel Balaguer within his team. Mental preparation has become a crucial aspect of modern tennis, and Alcaraz offered insight into how this dynamic works behind the scenes.
Alcaraz’s evolving relationship with Balaguer
When asked about his communication with Balaguer, Alcaraz admitted that his direct exchanges with her have become less frequent. “I’m talking less and less with her. It’s a relationship where Juanqui and Samu talk to her a lot to give her instructions so that she can then pass them on to me on court,” Alcaraz explained.
Support when needed
The Spaniard highlighted that he turns to Balaguer primarily when he feels the need to release tension or share personal thoughts. “I talk to her when I feel the need to vent and speak with someone. Thank God, since Miami I haven’t had that feeling of needing to vent because everything has gone really well. Both on and off the court, I’ve felt very good,” he said.
A sign of confidence
Alcaraz’s comments reflect a period of stability and confidence in his career. His reliance on Balaguer has shifted from regular interaction to occasional support, showing how his mental state has strengthened alongside his performances on the court.
With his team structure firmly in place, Alcaraz continues to balance physical training, tactical preparation, and psychological support. His words underline the importance of mental health in professional sport, while also revealing the trust he places in his coaches and support staff to manage communication with Balaguer effectively.
