World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka has opened up about her future plans, revealing that while she dreams of becoming a mother, her current focus is entirely on her tennis career. Speaking ahead of the 2025 Australian Open, the Belarusian star made it clear that she wants to explore the full extent of her potential on the court before stepping away for family life.
“I just want to achieve my full potential in my sport and see how far I can go. I’d probably like to try starting a family in about five years,” Sabalenka said in an interview with Alexander Sokolovskiy on YouTube.
At 27, Sabalenka is at the peak of her powers, having won both the Australian Open and US Open in 2024. Her aggressive baseline game and mental toughness have made her one of the most dominant players on the WTA Tour.
A future return after motherhood
Sabalenka also expressed her desire to return to professional tennis after having a child, inspired by other athletes who have successfully resumed their careers post-maternity. She emphasized the importance of setting an example for her future child through her work ethic and determination.
“I really want to have a kid and come back,” she added.
This vision reflects her long-term commitment to the sport and her belief that motherhood and elite competition can coexist with the right mindset and support.
No slowing down in sight
Despite her openness about family plans, Sabalenka remains fully committed to her current goals. She continues to train with intensity and compete at the highest level, with her sights set on defending her Australian Open title and maintaining her No. 1 ranking.
