Zverev upset in Paris

Alexander Zverev had huge hopes for the upcoming Roland Garros after he won the title in Rome. Unfortunately, things went south pretty quickly after the draw when the German was meant to play clay court specialist (and always dangerous) Fernando Verdasco in the opener.

In this 1st round, Sascha was clearly nervous and not able to cope with the pressure; the Spaniard took full advantage of the situation and eventually Verdasco won the match 6-4 3-6 6-4 6-2.

After the match, the German confirmed that “I played absolute s— made the difference. It’s quite simple.”

Sascha collapsed completely in the last game when he was on serve; the German lost that game after he committed a double fault, he lost a point on a drop shot that landed on the service line (!!!), and he missed an elementary volley.

On the bright side, we need to acknowledge that Sascha is still “work in progress.” Therefore, nothing is (obviously) lost. As the German said, the season doesn’t end in Paris, and he is still ranked no.4 in the year to date rankings.
