As San Diego gets ready to host the most recent FIP Tour event, Padel’s popularity in the US keeps growing. The international circuit is back with a FIP Silver event at the Padel N9NE courts through Sunday, following the triumph of the FIP Bronze in Austin. The competition showcases the sport’s expanding popularity in North America and brings together elite athletes from around the globe.

Men’s Draw Packed with Talent

With 32 pairs in the men’s tournament, there will be intense action all week long. Miguel Gonzalez and Albert Trillas support the bottom half of the draw, while Simon Vasquez of Sweden and Luis Oliver Artigas of Spain lead the top half. As they compete for FIP World Ranking points and tour prestige, these combinations are anticipated to produce fierce fights.

Vinny Di Francesco, the top-ranked male player in the US right now, is one of the notable American names. After defeating Argentina’s Octavio Alvarez in Austin, he travels to San Diego. Nico Agritelley and the all-American team of Jose De Armas and Raul Ruiz, who are the top-ranked US pair going into the competition, will also be watched by fans.

In a pre-event interview with FIP Tour media, Di Francesco stated, “We’re thrilled to perform in front of a home crowd once more.”

Women’s Field Highlights Local and Global Power

Catarina Santos of Portugal and Camila Ramme of Mexico are leading the women’s draw and both want to win the championship in San Diego. Close behind are Brazil’s Manuela Schuck and Spain’s Aitana Garcia, who are expected to challenge the top seeds with aggressive play and tactical depth.

American hopes rest on Brittany Dubins, the country’s No. 1 female player, who partners with Spain’s Anna Cortiles. After victories in Austin and Aveiro, Dubins is vying for her third CUPRA FIP Tour championship. Renata Martinez and Marta Morga also have impressive resumes and a strong desire to gain ranking points going into the draw.

Prior to the competition, Dubins told the local media, “It’s incredible to see how much padel is growing here.”
