Mladenovic wins epic battling back injury

Kiki Mladenovic was tipped as one of the favorites to win the Roland Garros, but things got wrong pretty soon. The day before her first round, the Frenchwoman got injured to her back during a training session, and yesterday in her opener she faced a terrible start against the world no.88 Jennifer Brady (0-3). Eventually, after losing the first set, Kiki conquered the second, but things got complicated again in the decider when the Frenchwoman had to cope with another tough 0-3 deficit. Mladenovic took full advantage of her mental strengths to conquer the following four games (4-3). Then, everything went down to a huge fight that Kiki won at the very end. The final result was 3-6 6-3 9-7.

It was extremely difficult. MLADENOVIC

After the match, an exhausted Mladenovic commented

“I know I have lots of courage, but I have to say mentally it was extremely difficult for me. I did such a great preparation and sort of thing to happen to me just the day before; it’s super negative. You know, I just tried to fight.

When you are out there on the center court in front of your home crowd and playing a Grand Slam, and you don’t feel 100%, and even it’s very bad, and, like, thousand of people can see that I’m pushing the ball and I’m not me, I just try to fight and find a solution.”

Next vs. Errani

Kiki will play Sara Errani in the 2nd round. The head to head is 3-1 for the Frenchwoman. The key issue for Mladenovic is if she can recover from her back injury and she is positive about that.
