Jannik Sinner has reclaimed the ATP World No. 1 ranking after a commanding performance at the Paris Masters. The Italian defeated Felix Auger-Aliassime in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6(4), securing his fifth title of the season and his fifth Masters 1000 crown. This victory elevated his ATP points total to 11,500, overtaking Carlos Alcaraz, who suffered an early exit in Paris and dropped to 11,250 points.
“It’s huge. I’m very happy about this result,” Sinner said after lifting the trophy.
Alcaraz’s Early Exit Shakes Up Rankings
Carlos Alcaraz, who had previously dethroned Sinner after winning the US Open final in September, was stunned in the second round of the Paris Masters by Cameron Norrie. The loss ended Alcaraz’s 17-match winning streak at Masters 1000 events and opened the door for Sinner’s return to the top.
“I thought it was impossible to get back to No. 1 this year,” Sinner admitted before the tournament began.
Ranking Reset Ahead of Turin Finals
Despite his current lead, Sinner will enter the ATP Finals in Turin with 10,000 points, placing him just behind Alcaraz, who will start the tournament with 11.050 points. This reset is due to the ATP’s live ranking adjustments and the points distribution system for the Finals.
The Battle for Year-End Supremacy
The ATP Finals will serve as the ultimate battleground for the year-end No. 1 ranking. Both players have a realistic shot at finishing 2025 on top, depending on their performance in Turin. With only 250 points separating them, every match will be critical.
Sinner’s indoor dominance and recent form make him a formidable contender, while Alcaraz will be eager to reclaim the lead and secure his first year-end No. 1 finish since 2022.
