Alexander Zverev faced a tough challenge in the Paris Masters semifinal, where he was defeated by Jannik Sinner in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1. The German appeared physically hampered throughout the match, struggling with movement and unable to generate his usual power on serve.

“Unfortunately, it swelled up a lot yesterday after the match,” Zverev said in his post-match interview. “But to be honest, I mean against Jannik, if you’re not 100% and if you’re not playing at your absolute best, then you simply don’t stand a chance, and he showed that today.”

Zverev’s discomfort was visible on court, particularly in his footwork and serve mechanics. “I couldn’t move 100%. I couldn’t really push off on my serve either, which is obviously very, very important for me against him,” he added.

Medical Assessment in Munich

With the ATP Finals in Turin approaching, Zverev is now focused on recovery. He confirmed plans to consult with his medical team in Germany to assess the injury and determine the best course of action.

“Yes, I’ll probably fly to Munich to see my doctor who did the surgery on my ankle,” Zverev explained. “I’ll look into it with him and see what it is and if we can do anything about it. Maybe we can make an injection, and then I’ll come to Turin at some point.”

The concern is particularly acute given Zverev’s history with ankle injuries. He previously suffered a serious ligament tear at Roland Garros in 2022, which required surgery and a lengthy recovery.

Uncertain Road to Turin

Zverev’s participation in the ATP Finals remains uncertain. The tournament, set to begin in Turin next week, features the top eight players of the season. Zverev had secured his qualification with a strong run of form, including a victory over Daniil Medvedev in the Paris quarterfinals.

However, his physical condition could now jeopardize his chances of competing at full strength—or at all. The coming days will be critical in determining whether he can recover in time to take part in the season-ending event.

Sinner’s Dominance

While Zverev battled injury, Jannik Sinner delivered a near-flawless performance to reach the final in Paris. The Italian’s aggressive baseline play and relentless pressure left little room for error, even for a fully fit opponent.

Zverev acknowledged the challenge: “If you’re not at 100%, you don’t stand a chance against him.”
