After two years and five consecutive defeats, Alexander Zverev finally overcame Daniil Medvedev in a dramatic quarterfinal at the 2025 Paris Masters. The German star rallied from a set down to win 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5), securing his first victory over Medvedev since the 2023 Cincinnati Open.

“Daniil is kind of my kryptonite. I don’t like playing him. He’s somebody who has had my number for the last couple of years. I’m very pleased with the win for sure,” Zverev said.

Medvedev’s frustration and Daria’s reaction

While Medvedev’s fiery temperament is well known, his outburst during the final set drew particular attention. Trailing in the decider, he was caught shouting in frustration. Moments later, his wife Daria Medvedeva was seen leaving her courtside seat. The clip, shared widely online, sparked speculation about whether her departure was linked to his behavior.

A moment of sportsmanship

Despite the tension, Medvedev showed concern for his opponent when Zverev slipped and clutched his hamstring during the first set. Medvedev walked over, helped him up, and asked if he was okay before play resumed.

Zverev advances to face Sinner

With the win, Zverev moves on to the semifinals, where he will face Jannik Sinner. The Italian has been in strong form, and their matchup promises to be one of the tournament’s highlights. For Zverev, the victory over Medvedev was not just a statistical milestone—it was a psychological breakthrough.
