Boris Becker has spoken candidly about the support he received from Novak Djokovic during his time in prison. The former world number one described Djokovic’s gestures as deeply meaningful and unexpected, highlighting the strength of their personal bond.

“Novak spoke well of me in the press conference. He gave me support, I didn’t expect that. We are a family. In tough moments you know who actually care for you and who don’t,” Becker said.

A Relationship Beyond Tennis

Becker and Djokovic worked together from 2013 to 2016, a period marked by Grand Slam victories and dominance on the ATP Tour. Their professional relationship evolved into a lasting friendship, which Becker says became even more evident during his legal troubles.

“Novak Djokovic became a family member,” Becker said. “We had a professional relationship for many years and we parted ways in 2016. But we always stayed close and especially during my time inside, Novak supported me, he supported my family.”

Emotional Impact of Djokovic’s Wins

Becker revealed that Djokovic’s success on the court during his incarceration had a powerful emotional effect on him.

“I started crying when he started winning,” he admitted, underscoring how much the connection meant during a time of isolation.

The German legend’s reflections show how loyalty and friendship can endure beyond the spotlight of competition, offering comfort when it’s needed most.
