Nadal gives updates about his physical condition ahead of his US Open campaign

Nadal about his knee injury

Rafael Nadal is about to start his US Open campaign as one of the top favorites. Seeded no.2, earlier in August, the Spanish legend looked to be in fantastic form in Montreal where he won the title after demolishing Daniil Medvedev in the final 6-3 6-0.

However, Rafa decided not to compete the following week in Cincinnati citing fatigue. That was a questionable reason since the King of Clay had a rather smooth run in Canada where he played only 9 sets during the week. Rafa’s effort was also mitigated by the fact that Gael Monfils conceded him a walk-over in the semifinal.

Nadal about his ongoing knee injury and his feelings

The world no.2 has been struggling for most of his career with a knee injury and last year he had to withdraw in the US Open semifinal against Del Potro because of his knee. Eventually, Rafa decided also to cut short the last part of the season to recover from that injury.

During the US Open pre-tournament press conference, talking about his knee, Rafa commented:

“I hope to be ready. Last year, honestly, I was not that bad. Of course, my feeling on my knees is better this year than last year. Last year the problem was I played three or four very, very long matches.

That’s tough. Then happened in that semi-finals the thing with the knee. I hope to be ready for it. I think I am playing well. I am practicing the right way during these days. Of course, winning in Montreal helps. I am ready for the action.”

Rafael Nadal vs. John Millman H2H

Rafa will face John Millman in the first round at the Flushing Meadows. Last year the Australian surprised a struggling Roger Federer after he beat him in 4 sets.

The head to head between Nadal and Millman is 1-0 for the Spaniard that defeated John in Wimbledon back in 2017 6-1 6-3 6-2.
