Roger Federer is about to start his US Open campaign to bid for his 21st slam, and he will face Indian qualifier Sumit Nagal.
Sumit’s surname is eerily similar to Roger’s nemesis (and good friend) Rafael Nadal, but of course, the Indian has a different profile.
Who is Sumit Nagal?
Ranked no.190 (career-high), Sumit is used to play Challengers. However, he is having a rather good year in 2019 to reach 5 semifinals at challenger level (Savannah, Samarkand, Lyon, Bratislava, and Milan). Sumit is trying to find his way to the “main tour.” He has recently qualified for the main draw in Hamburg and now at the US Open where he will face the Swiss Maestro.
When Federer and Nagal are going to play
Roger and Sumit are scheduled to play on Monday at the Arthur Ashe Stadium soon after the match between Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova. The American and the Russian will lock horns starting at 7 pm. Therefore, Roger may commence his run by 9 pm. The first match of the day at the Arthur Ashe Stadium will be Ashleigh Barty vs. Zarina Diyas (12 pm) followed by Novak Djokovic vs. Roberto Carballes Baena.
Head to Head Federer – Nagal
Roger and Sumit have never played each other. The Swiss is the obvious favorite to win in straight sets.
