Jannik Sinner opened his Rolex Paris Masters run with a commanding 6-4, 6-2 victory over Belgium’s Zizou Bergs, stretching his unbeaten streak on indoor hard courts to 22 matches. The Italian, fresh off his Vienna Open triumph over Alexander Zverev, needed just 88 minutes to secure his place in the last 16, where he will face Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo, ranked No 21 in the world.

Aiming for the top spot

Sinner’s goal in Paris is clear: win back-to-back titles and challenge Carlos Alcaraz for the world No 1 ranking. With Novak Djokovic absent and Alcaraz already eliminated, the path is open for the 22-year-old to make a decisive move in the ATP standings.

“It’s a very unique court here,” Sinner said after the match. “Usually I always struggled a bit so I’m very happy to come through the first match. I’m very happy with how I served today, I was very precise and I started off with a break, which gives you a bit more confidence straight away.”

Vacherot sets up clash with Norrie

Elsewhere in the draw, Monaco’s Valentin Vacherot continued his impressive form by defeating his cousin Arthur Rinderknech in a rematch of the Shanghai final. Vacherot now advances to face Cameron Norrie, who stunned Carlos Alcaraz in the previous round. Their third-round encounter is scheduled for Thursday and will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.

Paris Masters heats up

With several top seeds already out and the tournament relocated to the modern La Défense Arena, the 2025 edition of the Paris Masters is shaping up to be one of the most unpredictable in recent memory. Sinner’s form and focus suggest he could be the man to beat as he eyes the No 1 ranking and a strong finish to his breakout season.
