Cameron Norrie produced one of the most memorable performances of his career at the Paris Masters, defeating world number one Carlos Alcaraz in three sets: 4–6, 6–3, 6–4. The match, played at La Défense Arena, marked Norrie’s first victory over a reigning world No. 1 and snapped Alcaraz’s 17-match winning streak at Masters 1000 events.

Alcaraz started strong, breaking early and taking the first set with confident baseline play. But Norrie responded with precision and resilience, breaking Alcaraz’s serve in the second and third sets while saving four of five break points.

Alcaraz Responds with Grace

Despite the upset, Alcaraz showed sportsmanship in his post-match message on social media. “Congratulations @cam_norrie for the win and good luck for the rest of the tournament! 🤝🏻 See you next year Paris!” he wrote, acknowledging the Brit’s performance and expressing optimism for future appearances.

The Spaniard had entered the tournament fresh off titles in Cincinnati, New York, and Tokyo, but struggled with rhythm and timing in Paris, committing 19 unforced errors in the second set alone.

Norrie’s Composure and Tactical Shift

Norrie’s ability to adapt after the first set was key. He increased aggression on return games and maintained a high first-serve percentage, which kept Alcaraz on the defensive. “He’s just not finding his range,” noted Sky Sports commentator Naomi Broady during the match.

The win propels Norrie into the last 16 of the Paris Masters for the first time since 2023, and reopens the race for the year-end No. 1 ranking, with Jannik Sinner now in contention.

Looking Ahead to Turin

Alcaraz’s early exit gives him additional recovery time before the ATP Finals in Turin, where he’ll aim to reclaim momentum. Meanwhile, Norrie’s victory adds intrigue to the closing stretch of the season, as he seeks to build on this breakthrough performance.
