Sharapova gets a wildcard for Toronto

Maria Sharapova gets another (controversial) wildcard for the upcoming Rogers Cup in Toronto.

The Russian Beauty has received the direct pass to the main draw from many tournaments soon after serving her 15 months’ ban for doping. So far Maria has played Stuttgart, Madrid, and Rome; the Roland Garros refused to grant a wild card to the Russian that has decided not to ask one for Wimbledon (probably to avoid another embarrassment).

Rogers Cup tournament director Karl Hale justified the wild card after calling Sharapova a “fan favourite.”

From Sharapova

The Russian commented

“I’m really looking forward to coming back to Canada.  is one of the biggest events of the year and I hope to play my best tennis that week.”

It’s interesting that Maria’s fiercest critic is the Canadian no.1 Genie Bouchard that has recently stated that the Russian should have been banned for life.

What about a tasty Bouchard – Sharapova in Toronto?
