Jannik Sinner advanced to the semifinals of the Vienna Open after defeating Alexander Bublik in a demanding quarterfinal match. The Italian star faced a strong serving performance from the Kazakh player but managed to stay mentally focused and tactically sharp throughout the contest.

“Tough matchup. Playing QF in a 500 against Sasha is very difficult. I’m very happy. Tried to return as many balls as possible. I felt like he was serving great. I had some chances early in the first set. Couldn’t use them. Tried to stay there mentally. I’m very happy about that and happy to be in the semis again. Very dangerous player. I tried to stay as solid as possible,” Sinner said after the match.

Improvements in serving and tactical variety

Sinner’s serve was particularly effective, with only five points lost on serve during the entire match. When asked about the noticeable improvement, he credited consistent practice and a willingness to adapt under pressure.

“Practice of course. Being also quite brave at times. Trying to understand, with less pace… but trying to change it up. Here today I was serving really well. It’s for sure a shot where I don’t feel as comfortable and as safe yet. But I feel like every day is changing a little bit. Today… Great percentage. I’m very happy,”

he explained.

Looking ahead to a tough semifinal

Sinner now prepares to face Alex de Minaur in the semifinal, a player he narrowly defeated in Beijing. He acknowledged the physical and tactical demands of the upcoming match and emphasized the need to maintain focus and intensity.

“Next match will be even more difficult. Alex is playing some great tennis. It was very close in Beijing. It’s gonna be a very tough and physical match. Let’s see what’s coming,” Sinner said.

With momentum on his side and a growing confidence in his serve, Sinner continues to build toward a strong finish in Vienna, aiming to add another title to his impressive 2025 season.
