During her visit to Spain for the Princess of Asturias Sports Award, Serena Williams spoke about Carlos Alcaraz’s impact on tennis and his potential to reach historic heights. “Alcaraz is doing incredible things. I’m a huge fan of Alcaraz. I always cheer him on,” she said.

Alcaraz, already a multiple Grand Slam champion at just 22, has impressed with his versatility and maturity across all surfaces.

Possibility of surpassing Djokovic

When asked whether Alcaraz could one day eclipse Novak Djokovic’s record of 24 Grand Slam titles, Williams responded with optimism. “At this point, anything is possible,” she said. “When Federer started, no one thought he could surpass Sampras, and he did. Then Rafa did the same, and then Djokovic.”

She emphasized Alcaraz’s youth and competitive environment as key factors. “Carlos is very young, he has great rivals, but of course it’s possible,” Williams added. “Records are there to be broken.”

A generational shift underway

Williams’ comments reflect the growing belief that Alcaraz could lead the next era of men’s tennis. With Djokovic still active and challengers like Jannik Sinner and Holger Rune rising, the landscape is evolving quickly.

Alcaraz’s early success and Williams’ endorsement highlight the excitement surrounding his future and the possibility of rewriting tennis history.
